The institute's primary objective is to assist refugees, asylees, and other immigrants assimilate to a new life here in the U.S. by providing them various services. There, I maintained client files, managed/troubleshoot the institute's database, and researched/evaluated trends of various factors important to the institute including employment trends by employers, seasons, and age groups. The analysis was presented at staff meetings, and I worked with the site director to figure out improvements to and the direction of the organization based on the analysis.The database itself was very non-user friendly with many issues, with the staff finding it an unreliable source of information. The purpose of my internship was to make the database more reliable and prove its usefulness to the staff so that the institute's organization and decision making becomes more data driven. In addition, I designed a case management case load weighting system that gave a numerical value as to the amount of work each case manager was handling at any given moment. With this system, new cases can be efficiently and effectively distributed to the case managers so that no one person is overwhelmed with too much work. Along with that, I also occasionally took part in front desk assistance, ESL teaching, and employment services.
