Worked at Google semantic parsing group during this time. The semantic parsing entails mapping natural language text into a structured representation. It includes a grammar with a syntax component defining what set of languages are accepted, and with a semantic part specifying the computation of the semantics associated with the input text. As a concrete example, one can write a grammar with syntactic rules to accept "February 28" as a valid date expression, but reject "February 30", and with a semantic component specifying how accepted date expressions are grounded to calendar date values. My work in semantic parsing lies in 2 areas:1) the semantic infrastructure: e.g., enrich the expressiveness of grammar rules and make it easier to compose a grammar;2) the date/time understanding component shared and used in multiple verticals. The project is divided in 2 phases: 2a) English temporal (i.e., date/time) expression understanding: i.e., computing the grounded values for date/time expressions such as "the first Monday of next month". 2b) Internationalization of the English grammar: leading a team of 10+ engineers and computational linguists to port the English grammar to to 24 locales/languages. I drove the date/time project from end-to-end: i.e., from its design, development and deployment in production (e.g., applications such as set a reminder; set an alarm).
