Graduate Student Research Assistant
Started as an independent study semester (ISS) student and later transitioned into research assistant and graduate student, I have conducted various research projects on the HIV-1 accessory protein Nef. In addition to scientific knowledge and research skills, I have also excelled at many soft and transferable skills, including time and project management, mentorship, critical thinking, and more. Selected research accomplishments:• Generated a panel of latent HIV+ T cell lines and showed Nef’s novel role in the enhancement of viral reactivation from latency. As confirmation, also developed CRISPR/Cas9 tool to target the editing of HIV-1 nef gene.• Developed a novel TCR-based reporter cell assay that allow robust and scalable in vitro measurement of antigen presentation.• Studied the molecular and functional characteristics of HIV-1 Nef protein derived from different patient cohorts.Duties and Responsibilities:• Effectively written experimental protocols, research proposals and research manuscripts• Critically reviewed and edited research manuscripts• Prepared and delivered presentations at local, national and international meetings• Managed and executed multiple research projects• Developed and troubleshooted novel experimental protocols to achieve study objectives• Designed, organized and executed experiments smoothly• Analyzed and interpreted experimental results• Collaborated with research groups on national and international levels• Trained and mentored graduates, undergraduates, and high-school students• Acquired knowledge on virology, immunology, molecular biology and epidemiology• Received various graduate and travel scholarships

Microbiology And Greenhouse Tomato Research Assistant
As a Co-op student in at Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada, I simultaneously worked on two distinct research studies. Specifically, I independently learned, designed, and optimized RNA extraction and qPCR methods for gene expression studies on greenhouse tomatoes and the bacteria Clostridium perfringens, and the results that I collected have contributed to two manuscripts on which I am co-author. I also honed various microbiology and molecular biology techniques, including bacterial culture, DNA/RNA extractions, PCR, RT-qPCR, ELISA, and more.Duties and Responsibilities:• Optimized and performed experimental protocols for two distinct research studies• Collected, analyzed, and interpreted experimental results
Member Of Adme-T Team
At Xenon Pharmaceuticals Inc., I started as a Co-op student and later on transferred into a research assistant position. Following SOPs for various high throughput assays, I screened a large panel of synthetic drug candidates and determined their drug-like properties, including solubility, permeability, metabolism, cytotoxicity and drug-to-drug interactions. I also developed and optimized methods to measure drug metabolism using a different CYP450 substrate. In addition to laboratory techniques, this corporate experience honed my skills in protocol writing, oral presentation, data analysis and records keeping.Duties and Responsibilities:• Followed SOPs and tested synthetic compounds to determine their drug-like properties• Developed and optimized methods to measure drug metabolism
