My interest in Microbiology stemmed from infectious disease and is moving into host microbiome interactions. My current work aims to understand how certain bacterial pathogens survive on dry surfaces for extended period and spread within hospitals. In addition to understanding pathogen physiology, I'm also approaching infectious disease by developing platforms for antimicrobial molecule screening. I have extensive experience working with microbes. I developed a biological assay to measure survival rate after desiccation, and have used the assay to discover several important factors of desiccation survival. In addition, I'm experienced with designing screens and building libraries at the size of millions, and am familiar with protein purification techniques. I'm currently gaining more experience on next-gen sequencing data analysis. Team work mades dream work. I gained precious experience mentoring people and cooperating with colleagues.The interaction of humans with microbes are not limited to infection. More and more studies suggest our microbiome is related to lots of aspects of our health, ranging from obesity, diabetes, to depression and cancer. My future interest will be to understand the interactions between host and their microbiome.
