Within this full-time role as a social worker within the HUDA service of the Association Saint-Benoît Labre, I accompany around 20 asylum seekers, refugees and beneficiaries of international protection, in social and administrative realms, particularly with their asylum applications. I also assist them with their socio-professional integration in France and with various other needs (health, schooling, parenting, family reunification, French classes etc.).

Based out of the Asylum centre at the Saint-Herblain office of the Trajet Association, I accompany and help asylum seekers and refugees to access all of their social rights in France. This includes but is not limited to helping them to look after their state-provided accomodation, advancing their asylum application and other judicial issues, encouraging integration into French society through participation in socio-cultural activities, ensuring access to a range of social services (health, legal, training, employment etc.), and other case-by-case needs.

In this role I am supporting in the coordination of the JRS Jeunes programme based out of the Nantes JRS France office. The JRS Jeunes programme aims to provide collaborative socio-cultural events and programmes for asylum seekers, refugees, migrants and local French residents based on the philosophy of equality.

As a network of more than 600 social entrepreneurs, the main responsibility I had was to coordinate the various activities of the Impact Assessment Working Group, which are working to develop a framework to assess the activities of the network, and the Strategy Review Task Force. This required frequent scheduling of meetings, preparing weekly agendas, taking minutes, transcribing meeting, organising focus group sessions, and liaising important information between various stakeholders from the network to the Secretariat. I was also responsible for helping to prepare for the Catalysing Change Week both technically, by providing website and database updates and logistically by providing tech support during sessions. At times, I was also required to translate documents from English to Spanish and French that were later distributed across the network. Finally, I also had the responsibility of conducting frequent research on and scoping for potential organisations that would be best suited to join the network.In August 2021, I was also hired for a contractual job to complete a data analysis report for the Midterm Strategy review of the entire Catalyst 2030 network.

In this role, I was tasked with assisting the project officers and coordinators in the daily maintenance of the Women’s Space, a community-based initiative to help female refugees access social services. I was mainly tasked with minding the children of the women accessing services, preparing cultural events for clients, and providing assistance for occasional excursions.

In this role, my main responsibilities included preparing weekly lesson plans and activities for 4-6 primary school students. With that, I was also tasked with managing a small budget to cater to weekly lunches for 30+ students. I was also responsible for setting up and cleaning the public venue that was leased every week to hold the program. Occasionally, I was tasked with providing a review of the performance of other tutors and suggesting areas for improvement. I also had regular communication with the parents of students so that I could also provide feedback on students’ progress and listen to any questions and/or concerns from them.

My main responsibilities in this role were to provide strong customer service to customers on a variety of products sold at the pharmacy. This required me to constantly provide concise guidance and to always maintain a good line of command by being in close communication with pharmacists and/or managers. From a logistical perspective, I was also required to conduct frequent inventory management by ordering stock from the warehouse, stocktaking products, and liaising with outside stakeholders. I was also tasked with conducting new employee inductions, which required wide expertise on all relevant topics within the pharmacy. This allowed me to develop skills in a managerial capacity by providing instructions and suggesting improvements to others.

In this role, I conducted routine administrative tasks such as entering applicant information into Raiser’s Edge and Citrix databases, executing police checks for new program applicants, and preparing and collecting items to be sent from the post office. I was also tasked with maintaining correspondence via email and phone for program applicants with any questions, comments, or concerns, as well as other general office assistance.

In this role, the main responsibilities were to actively promote the ‘Close the Gap Day’ campaign, an initiative that seeks to reduce health inequalities for Indigenous Australians. With 3 months to prepare in advance for the campaign, I was responsible for helping to establish an effective fundraising strategy to engage more campaign participants, with call outs and targeted social media posts. I was also tasked with organizing traditional Indigenous catering for an event with 40 + people in attendance.
