The Department of Intellectual Property (IP) is primarily responsible for managing the Museum's digital and physical photographic archive of objects, events, galleries, and people relating to the Museum. Gained substantial experience related to the rights and reproductions management of an extensive photographic archive. The Office of the Legal Advisor handles all in house advising to the Police Commissioner and the Department. In addition to formulating legal opinions and providing legal perspectives on policy matters, the legal staff handles litigation matters, contracts, policy review, public records requests, and legislation drafting for the Department. The Asian Outreach Unit (AOU) provides guidance, referral services and free legal assistance to nearly 1,000 low-income Asian immigrants each year. They assist and represent Asian immigrant clients in the key areas of domestic and family violence, employment, benefits, immigration, and housing. The AOU also partners with other local organizations in community empowerment campaigns to advance the goals and objectives of workers, tenants, residents, and voters. Assisted with client intakes and case investigations. Provided brief service and advice under the guidance of staff attorneys. Conducted legal research as well as writing and trial preparation for cases. Utilized Mandarin Chinese language skills in communicating with clients to ensure equal access to the law despite language barriers. Researched electoral records in support of the AOU’s campaign to pass the bilingual ballots bill, which would require Chinese/English and Vietnamese/English ballots for those that need them in the City of Boston. With fully bilingual ballots, elderly naturalized U.S. citizens whose English is limited are able to vote freely and independently in all local, state, and federal elections.

Massachusetts’ residents telephone the LARC hotline to receive legal advice and referrals on a wide range of civil legal matters, including landlord/tenant, family law, consumer, bankruptcy, public benefits and disability issues. Most of the clients who LARC assists are low-income. The legal hotline is staffed by attorneys, paralegals, law students and volunteers. Screened calls from people seeking legal help and provided referrals to legal and other resources. Conducted detailed intake interviews for consideration by advocates at other legal services programs. Utilized Mandarin Chinese language speaking skills to address issues and concerns of Asian clients. Prepared and mailed advice letters and literature to clients. Trained in a broad range of poverty law and gave limited legal advice under the supervision of an attorney. Demonstrated strong communication and interviewing skills, sensitivity to people in crisis, an ability to handle a high volume of phone calls from the public, strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and good computer skills, including the ability to learn and use a new intake software program.
