The Robert Ross lab is a cardiology lab based in the UCSD School of Medicine. Our focuses lie in understanding cell membrane behaviors in the myocardium and cardiomyocytes through studies revolving around genetically altered mouse models. The goal of our research is to push forward with potential findings to benefit new therapies in cardiology.• Complete independent mouse husbandry, tagging, genotyping, and record-keeping • Assist in surgical mouse procedures through anesthetic injection, surgery site preparation, and mouse retrieval• Regularly perform the lab techniques of PCR, gel electrophoresis, cryostat sectioning, buffer restocking, cell staining, and Western blot.

The Division of Biological Sciences at the University of California, San Diego allows undergraduate students the opportunity to gain experience in science teaching at the collegiate level under the supervision of professors and graduate students. I have had the privilege of working under the mentorship of three different professors for this course: Stephanie Mel, Ph.D, Stanley Lo, Ph.D, and Brooke Pickett, Ph.D.• Lead in lab sections consisting of 24 undergraduate students each • Host office hours to better support students in learning and comprehension of course material• Instruct students with guidance from BILD 4 professors and graduate-level teaching assistants

FREEDOM Trial: FREEDOM is an NIH-funded clinical trial evaluating the efficacy of the "Exersides" novel arm restraint for critically ill patients in the ICU in an attempt to reduce immobility, sedation, agitation and cognitive impairment.• Screening patient charts in Epic to evaluate eligibility and enrolling patients at Jacobs Medical Center for the NIH FREEDOM trial, and reporting findings to PI Dr. Biren Kamdar.• Placing novel Exersides restraints on randomized patients, and observing and recording patients’ behaviors and cognitive state. FREEDOM Sub-study: We have several sub-studies being conducted to contribute to FREEDOM and sleep and delirium ICU research, including environmental analysis and Actiwatch movement measurement.• Collect data from specially-made light and sound sensors in 12 ICU patient rooms at Jacobs Medical Center.• Facilitating an independent sub-study tracking patient flow data to prepare patient numbers for reports to IRB, other investigators, and funding agencies. Findings are organized in Excel and presented during lab meetings. • Independently working towards creating and organizing content for the Kamdar Lab website
