About Yissel Ayala
I don’t just tell stories, I sell them. From a hitchcock-inspired heel display that generated a 170% increase in sales in 1 month, to a department-wide collection of children's tales that landed the kids department 355% over LY, I’ve spent the past 5+ years excelling in leveraging creativity, data, and trends, to merchandise stories that became best sellers. Throughout my life, I’ve had a variety of roles and experiences that all served to make me an incredible storyteller:In high school, I entered a NYC playwriting competition and won. I’d proved myself a wordsmith capable of delivering a compelling narrative. While studying Fashion Design at FIT I spun tales of romance and whimsy through color, fabric manipulation and traditional and digital illustration. In Milan I learned the importance of R&D and the art of merchandising. Collaborating with a team to make sure every detail of a story was fleshed out and the lineup had no plot holes! As an actor, I learned to improvise, gained confidence in front of an audience, collaborated with multiple teams of casts and crews, and proved myself flexible, adaptable, and eager to tell other people’s stories. (I’m not a Vault Dweller but I play one on TV!)And as a visual merchandiser, I gradually developed a love affair with data. Excel spreadsheets, sales reports, metrics, KPIs… data became my sidekick as I analyzed trends to deliver highly shoppable stories by merchandising the right pieces and styling mannequins just so. Along the way I’ve been blessed with amazing opportunities to use my creativity to pull from my interests (I am a comic and YA novel reading, video game playing, Taylor Swift and K-Pop stanning, vintage fashion-loving geek) to great success. Hungry for knowledge, I've been upskilling on the technical end. From driving KPIs like traffic, conversion, and overall store sales to styling mannequins and orchestrating visually captivating room setups, I revel in the power of suggestive selling and the art of merchandising. Now, I'm seeking to take my stories to the screen and apply my expertise on a larger scale in an e-commerce merchandising or analyst role. As more customers shop online, I want to meet them where they are. Ultimately I welcome any opportunity to merge my love of data and storytelling to bring joy to customers and have a greater impact on a company’s conversion and overall success. Reach out if you think I can help you.
