For instance, I prosecuted a very high volume of Australian and New Zealand biotech national stage applications mostly for corporate clients and law firms based in the United States, Canada, Europe, Israel, India and a number of Asian countries. In addition to patent prosecution, I handled pharmaceutical patent term extensions, inventorship determinations and disputes, hearings, assignments, freedom-to-operate opinions, patent infringement opinions and various trademark and design applications.

During my time with Fisher Adams Kelly, I drafted a large number of patent applications, including provisional, Patent Cooperation Treaty (PCT) and innovation patent applications and prosecuted world wide patent portfolios for a large number of clients based in Australia including, for instance, universities, medical research institutes and biotechnology companies. I also handled inventorship determinations, conducted patent searches, and provided infringement and validity advice.

My research at CSIRO, which included studying candidate gene expression in mastitis-infected cattle, resulted in the identification of a panel of important immune genes for use in early detection and treatment of mastitis through the development of diagnostic kits, antibodies and recombinant proteins. I was also an active participant in the Bovine Genome Sequencing Consortium and two annotation working groups (Immune function and Bovine models of human disease). My participation in this Consortium resulted in co-authorship on a couple of publications, including a Science publication. I was also part of the team that received CSIRO Chairman’s Medal Award in 2010.
