Yomar Augusto is a Brazilian-American multi-disciplinary graphic designer and artist who has made a name for himself internationally. Raised in Rio de Janeiro, he began his career by training as a graphic designer before expanding his expertise to photography, which he studied at the School of Visual Arts in New York City. After starting his own studio in Rio de Janeiro, he pursued a Master's in Type Design at The Royal Academy of Art in The Hague, The Netherlands, between 2004 and 2005.Yomar has showcased his work in both commercial and conceptual forms through solo exhibitions across Japan, Europe, and Brazil. His portfolio includes collaborations with renowned brands such as EMI, Absolut Vodka, Coca-Cola, MTV, and Warner Music in Brazil. While working with 180 Amsterdam, he also had the opportunity to develop the custom typeface for the Adidas Football World Cup 2010. Additionally, he has collaborated with Fur Fur and Graniph in Japan, and Random House in New York City.After being based in The Netherlands for almost 9 years, Yomar returned to New York City, where he worked as a freelancer. He later moved to California, where he dedicated time to both Fine Arts and commercial projects.As an educator, Yomar has taught typography, experimental calligraphy, book arts, and creative processes at renowned institutions worldwide. His teaching roles include Otis College of Art and Design in Los Angeles, California (Winter 2024), SDSU San Diego State University in San Diego, California (Fall 2017 & Fall 2023 - Present), SVA School of Visual Arts Typography Summer program in New York City (2015 - 2016), FIT Fashion Institute of Technology in New York City (2013 - 2015), and Willem de Kooning Academy in Rotterdam, The Netherlands (2011 - 2012). He has also served as a guest professor at Bauhaus University in Weimar, Germany (2010) and the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts in Copenhagen, Denmark (2010).In addition to his teaching roles, Yomar has led experimental calligraphy and book art workshops in various countries, including Brazil, Russia, Turkey, China, Denmark, Spain, Portugal, Germany, and The Netherlands. His achievements include delivering a talk at the Type Directors Club (TDC) in New York and being published at TDC Tokyo in Japan.
