Technology always called to me as a child. Much so that at age 4, inspired by MacGyver, I built a single-seat “plane” from scrap wood and a discarded fan, convinced that if I only ran fast enough with it, I would be able to fly.As an adult, I successfully led one of Europe’s busiest franchise restaurants for nearly a decade, blending people-first leadership with strategic thinking. I also worked in elderly care and autism support, roles that taught me the profound importance of human connection and empathy.Yet, my journey hasn’t always been easy. In fact it has been rather complex. In 2020, as society adapted under the weight of a global pandemic, I observed firsthand how certain technologies were being implemented without a clear ethical foundation. It struck me deeply, as a descendant of Harald Bluetooth, who united people through communication, to witness technology dividing and dehumanizing those it should serve.My curiosity led me to a front-row understanding of how some non-ethically aligned algorithms labeled me as a “system threat”, a revelation that disrupted my life and had me suspended from the autism care work, which I loved leading to a sectioning in a psychiatric facility. Stripped of my human rights, I was held under a system where AI-driven assessments misjudged my intentions, declaring me “lacking insight” into a psychiatric condition I didn’t possess.
