It feels great studying accounting as a student in U of I, in most of the time. And by saying most of the time, I mean the time when we discuss how should we record a transaction and make the correct journal entry, and the time when we try to convert the complex description on GAAP into some words what can be understand by teenagers. In contrast, the process of making similar entries repeatedly seems to be less attractive. After creating journal entries continuously in my accounting class, I felt the cloud of speculation in my mind. There is something missing in the process. After I talked with my professors about this feeling. I realized that the experience is what I lacked. Luckily, in my junior year, I had an opportunity to consult with a local company. Our clients came to us with the goal of increasing their sales in North Illinois. In order to help them, we thought it’s important to make increase their brand recognition. Therefore, we created some slide to show our how to implement our marketing strategy such as SEO, and we also showed them a list of companies which they could work with as a contractor. During the consulting process, I found that I enjoyed communicating with clients, especially when the conversation become more interactive. I also valued the sense of achievement when our deliverables are approved by clients and when they implemented some changes according to our recommendation. Even though the project didn’t require me to use my accounting skill, this experience ignited the fire of curiosity and passion inside me. I’m now eager for different hands-on experience. Now, on my academic path and career path, this passion remains with me. Because I know that there’s certainly yet more to learn, yet more problems to solve and yet more experience to explore. And I’m grateful for all the opportunities that make this life a great adventure.
