Developed seasonal habitat suitability models of greater sage-grouse in Wyoming using spatial modeling techniques integrating remotely sensed imagery and geospatial data layers of biological and environmental variables for establishing baselines for an individual-based model in order to examine cumulative effects of wind energy development in the Western U.S. • Developed semi-automated feature extraction method for examining impact of hydro-power activities on fish's feeding behavior • Wrote grant proposals as a (Co-)PI for environmental/ecological studies • Analyzed wide range of environmental and ecological impacts of wind energy development for Environmental Impact Statements in the West using geospatial technologies • Provided review and recommendation of remote sensing approaches for monitoring environmental, ecological, cultural, and socioeconomic changes • Conducted technical reviews for environmental/ecological studies.

Developed and tested remote sensing approaches for sustainable long-term habitat monitoring using very-high to moderate resolution imagery (i.e. scanned color-infrared aerial photography, QuickBird, SPOT imagery) with per-pixel, object-based, and spectral mixture models • Explored geospatial techniques for quantifying live fuel moisture for wildfire risk assessment using MODIS imagery • Developed and tested remote sensing methods for detecting fine-scale land-cover changes for US-Mexico border security using very-high resolution multi-temporal airborne imagery • Explored the utility of object-based image analysis software for land-use classification (e.g. Definiens, ERDAS Imagine Objective, ENVI Feature Extraction, and ArcGIS FeatureAnalyst) • Taught undergraduate/graduate courses pertaining to remote sensing principles, image processing techniques, and climate/severe weather (See Teaching Experience for details) • Developed intermediate/advanced remote sensing lab exercises.

Graduate level course with discussion and lab component on object-oriented image analysis, theory, and processing • Geography 688 Lab "Advanced remote sensing of environment" (5 semesters). Graduate level course associated with hands-on laboratory exercises for advanced image processing and analysis using a wide range of remotely sensed imagery and image processing software • Geography 588 Lab "Intermediate remote sensing of environment" (7 semesters). Upper division undergraduate and graduate level course with hands-on laboratory exercises for introductory to intermediate image processing and analysis using airborne and satellite imagery • Geography 403 "Severe Weather" (1 semester). Upper division undergraduate that explores earth's atmospheric environment, particularly sever weather and climatic phenomena.

Developed and tested cost-effective methods using airborne hyperspectral remote sensing for detecting, identifying, and mapping invasive plant species in riparian habitats of southern California.

Conducted and published research on geothermal energy potential along western Pacific Rim for renewable resource. Distributed findings to energy administers in the studied regions.
