Nice to meet you! I’m Yumin, also going by the moniker “highintheautumnsky”. I’m a Korean immigrant composer, specializing in both video game and contemporary Asian music. For the last 15 years I've played in various bands and combos while also producing music for numerous projects. These days, I’m working as a game audio professional, specializing in composing and producing original music. I was born in Seoul, the heart and capital of Korea, and started playing piano around the age of 5. I was absolutely horrid. To the point that many teachers refused to work with me. Soon after my family moved to the USA in search of better opportunities. It was during this time that I was introduced to the concept of playing video game and popular TV soundtracks on the piano. Ever since that moment I’ve wholeheartedly devoted myself to the practice and production of music. In line with these goals, I just recently graduated from the California Polytechnic State University 2023, majoring in music with a focus on Contemporary Composition and performance. I’ve loved video game music for as long as I can remember. It’s honestly why I get up in the morning and I can’t imagine a better vocation to find myself in. Video game music occupies a special place in our collective experience of sound. It’s special because it has the magical ability to immerse you in ways that no other medium could hope to match. When I hear a song from one of my favorite video games, like the Undertale, Deemo, Xenoblade Chronicles, Zelda, Mario, Octopath Traveler, Sky: Children of Light, and many many more, I’m instantly hit with all the emotions the journey of that game gave me. The full emotional immersiveness of a video game has so much potential to convey a great story to someone, and that story becomes completed by the game’s music.
