I have worked at Costco Wholesale at the warehouse level for more than five years, and I am grateful for the opportunity to expand and grow with the company. While working at Costco, I was attending the University of Nevada Reno. I was pursuing a degree in Information Systems with a minor in cybersecurity. Through the courses I took, I learned about database management systems, business process integration, computer security, computer applications, enterprise resource planning, and much more. I have learned to code in many different computer languages such as python, C#, C++, SQL, and ruby. I also have experience in integrated computer security, digital forensics, internet security through the university’s cybersecurity program. During these courses, I developed strategies for businesses that can reduce incidents of cyber-attacks, as well as strategies that businesses can use to keep track of data and use that data to increase profits. I started out at Costco as a front-end assistant. This was probably one of the most important parts of my career at Costco. As an assistant, I learned about the sense of urgency that Costco expects from their employees as well as the importance of providing great member service. I was very flexible and was given the opportunity to work as a night merchant, a membership employee, a member service employee, and work in different ancillary departments such as the food court and the deli. After about a year, I applied to be a cashier and got the position. Shortly after that, I became a vault clerk and a backup payroll clerk. These positions were very important because they were able to give me a different perspective about how the business is run. After another year of experience in these departments, I applied to be a combo-supervisor on the front end. After a few postings and a lot of perseverance, I was able to start training as a supervisor. I was a supervisor on the front end for over four years. Currently, I am an assistant front end manager. Costco has been a fantastic environment that has helped me grow both personally and professionally. I am excited to further my career at Costco and other companies that are interested in innovation, technology and the future of both.
