Supported by NIH T32 Glycoscience Training Grant, my work was aimed at increasing our knowledge of glycans' role in infectious disease by applying analytical chemistry methods. These efforts include the development of a multi-pronged approach to glycomic spatial profiling using various methods of mass spectrometry imaging (MSI).Developed a home-built nanoDESI stage for the purpose of spatial glycan localization with high resolution capabilities.

Served as a teaching assistant during the spring semester of 2023 for Dr Rich Helm's class, "Biochemical Techniques" (BCHM 2354).

Oak Ridge Institute for Science and Education Fellowship, hosted by the CDC in the ATL area. Mentors: Alicia Lyle, PhD & Karie Behm, PhD.A 10-week research experience dedicated to development and optimization of routine LC-MS reference methods for the detection of biomarkers indicative of chronic diseases. Project mainly focuses on parathyroid hormone (PTH) intact protein detection and development of a routine reference method for the possible improvement of existing clinical assay standardization in hyper/hypoparathyroidism and related chronic diseases. Methods include a large amount of LC-MS work, high experience with ThermoFisher Q Exactive Plus instruments.

Working under Dr. Rich Helm in the Virginia Tech Department of Biochemistry. Mainly involving LC-MS analysis on small molecules, sugars, peptides, and glycosaminoglycans.High involvement in analysis of samples from a variety of research areas for a large number of faculty members at Virginia Tech, spanning the Animal Science, Chemistry, Biology, and Microbiology departments, as well as external work for industry clients.

A 10-week undergraduate research program partnered with the GlycoMIP User Facility at Virginia Tech. Principal Investigator and Mentor: Dr. Richard F. Helm My research focused heavily on investigation into the structural anomalies within the cell wall of Borrelia burgdorferi, the spirochete bacterium that causes Lyme disease. Throughout this research, I familiarized myself with and mastered several analytical chemistry methods, including:- Liquid Chromatography-Mass Spectrometry (Shimadzu LC-MS 9030, and some work with Waters Synapt G2).- Evaporative Light-Scattering Detection (Shimadzu ELSD-LT II).- Fraction Collection (Shimadzu FRC-40).- LC–MS dataset feature analysis via XCMS and MS Dial software. - Varying wet lab sample preparation methods.
