My name is Zach Howser from Warrenton, VA and I am a student here at Eastern Kentucky University. I am majoring in Marketing with a certification in Professional Golf Management. Golf has been a huge passion of mine, and with some of my work experiences and professional seminars, I feel as if I am leading a charge for our program here at EKU. This past summer in my first internship with Saucon Valley Country Club I gained a variety of new skills as well as diversifying my knowledge of the golf industry. Along with providing excellent service and hospitality to members, with three championship courses, Saucon Valley hosted the 42nd U.S. Senior Open. During the Open we were tasked with running and operating the 19th hole putting experience which brought in roughly 5,000 people to the putting green. Along with my recent internship, I have also been a Players Assistant-Sales Associate at Golf Galaxy. At Golf Galaxy golf club fittings, club repairs, and merchandising was part of my daily tasks. During my time at Golf Galaxy, I have gained a strong product knowledge for clubs and equipment and have stayed well versed in the equipment industry. As a student at Eastern Kentucky University PGM program, I am working hard to manage time with productivity. At EKU I have been actively engaged in PGM activities, including being a valued member in our tournament committee and running our social media pages for the past year. Along with that was chosen to represent the organization as our representative at the PGA Annual Meeting. This has only added value to my perspective of this profession. Being part of our tournament committee at EKU as well as observing events at Saucon Valley has given me the chance to understand my passion for tournament operations and I hope to expand on these values in the future. The involvement and engagement at EKU and Saucon Valley has only propelled my excitement for going into the golf profession and building on my passion for the game of golf. Looking forward to learning new experiences within the golf profession including merchandising, teaching, and going further into tournament operations. These aspects of the profession are very exciting to me and I want to learn more.
