The best thing about my position at Baker Hill is its open-ended nature. As a full-stack developer, I’m given considerable latitude to explore new projects, tweak the development process, and mentor the technical and non-technical contributors around me.I’ve worked with our codebase across environments, adding feature functionality and monitoring production. My contributions were primarily in support of NextGen, a SaaS web app on Azure that automates loan application processes for hundreds of banks nationwide.On the feature side, I was part of a Scrum team, collaborating with business analysts, architects, and developers to understand the business processes of clients and how to pull those processes into the platform. And usually that involved some combination of Angular components, .NET services, and SQL objects and migrations. I even took the lead on a few features that dozens of institutions have already integrated into their pipelines within the system. I wrote user stories and led task breakdowns, shepherding the team toward a common vision.On the platform stability side, I maintain the sanctity of the production environment by monitoring Azure App Services, App Functions, and SQL Server 2019 clusters for anomalies to minimize the impact on clients. Sometimes this means dissecting query execution plans and performance-tuning the requisite object or requesting some form of live maintenance from the IT team. Other times it means sifting through traces, memory dumps, and performance profiles to identify quirks within our API and microservices.
