My work was featured in the British Magazine Medical Plastics News (MPN) as "The Next Big Thing to Watch." I have designed and manufactured the device using a combination of microfabrication techniques including laser micromachining, micromolding, 3D printing and etc. I have successfully conducted controlled anti-cancer drug-release experiments and measured the release profile with radioactive scintillation and UV spectrometry methods. In order to show proof-of-concept of the device, the device was successfully implanted and operated in a tissue. My contributions and collaborations in research projects at UBC can be summarized as follows: Worked at the UBC Microelectromechanical Systems (MEMS) lab and the UBC Faculty of Pharmaceutical Sciences and collaborated with pharmaceutical scientists to develop a novel drug delivery implant for the treatment of prostate cancer. Successfully carried all the stages of design, fabrication, in vitro and ex vivo testing of the prostate cancer implant to completion. Conducted in vitro and ex vivo drug delivery experiments from a battery-less MEMS drug delivery device for the treatment of diabetic retinopathy. Collaborated with the scientists from University of California, Berkley and surgeons from Vancouver Coastal Health Research Institute (VCHRI) in studying drug release kinetics and device-induced infections.
