As someone who sort of fell into the tech world, I have to say that I couldn't be happier about where my journey has led me, and how it continues to evolve.I started off with my degree in English getting a job writing social media posts for small and medium businesses across North America, but there was something missing. I met with one of the product managers at the company and asked, "How do I get from where I am to where you are?" and he replied, "The best advice I can give you is to read books on the topic".I picked up "Agile Project Management for Dummies" and my path was decided.I worked at a couple of website, branding, marketing, & app companies as a project manager until I was presented with the opportunity to build the entire role of product manager for the Let's Camp Reservation Software. This was a clear step toward my goal and I absolutely jumped at it.Three years later, I've become extremely comfortable knowing that product management is for me. The ability to do a little of everything and build toward unknown horizons is exactly the fulfilment that gets me up in the morning.I've learned how to manage and influence internal and external stakeholders, how to build a powerful culture of trust, respect, and vulnerability, how to connect the dots between every department, and most importantly, how to get measurable results.I used to think I was a "work to live" kind of person (and I definitely was), but the fulfilment I get out of what I'm doing now has clicked and it's so obvious to me how important it is to love my career and the difference I'm able to make in it.
