Communications Director

• Develop messaging and strategic communications plans to advance priority campaigns• Develop and facilitate diverse, powerful issue coalitions• Plan and oversee legislative campaigns, e.g. organizing coalitions, media events, lobby visits, protests and rallies, etc.• Live in the news cycle; monitor risks and opportunities; seize real-time media opportunities to advance our values, position and brand• Build relationships with print, broadcast and new media journalists• Develop and run online engagement campaigns to tell our story, engage our supports, advance campaign goals, and grow our list• Build durable relationships with key leaders of allied organizations to ensure alignment around campaign goals as well as larger, long-term vision• Serve as a spokesperson for the organization with the media, when appropriate• Collaborate in coalition with organizational partners and allies• Anticipate, prevent, and, if necessary, manage crisis communications• Engage affiliated organizations to build and support the Working Families base within their membership• Draft talking points, press advisories and releases, op-eds, memos, and other materials, as needed• Identify online organizing opportunities and manage new media efforts on CT campaigns and issues• Produce detailed reports of communications activities for staff and leadership• Other duties, as required
