PhD in John Irvine's group in the School of Chemistry. Research concerned the development of Oxygen Transport Membranes (OTM), which have potential applications in fields including carbon capture and storage, upgrading of light hydrocarbons and oxygen production.Designed a rig to test OTMs at high temperature. Developed planar membranes using techniques including tape casting and screen printing. Used XRD, TGA and SEM with microanalysis to determine the physical and chemical causes of performance degradation. Experience with neutron powder diffraction.Passed in July 2017 with minor corrections.

Assistant Warden in halls of Residence in St Andrews. Responsible for pastoral care of up to 250 students at a time, plus out of hours response to in-hall emergencies.

Involved in the development of a novel metal supported ITSOFC with domestic applications. Experience in W filament SEM with EDX/WDX, particle sizing, TGA, dilatometry, XRD and rheology, thick film and chemical solution deposition, Six Sigma techniques and Design of Experiments (DoE).Proficiency in SEM and a good understanding of the entire product led to responsibility for post-mortem of cells, stacks and balance-of-plant

Worked as part of a small team involved in the scale-up of novel pharmaceutical candidates as well as small runs of validated APIs. Responsible for in-process checks (IPCs), running reactors (procedures included distillations, separations, hydrogenation, centrifugation and filtration), plus some maintenance work.

Responsible for analysis of a novel drug candidate supporting scale-up and validation of the plant. Experience in a pilot plant commissioning a new piece of equipment. Techniques included TGA, DSC, FT-IR, Raman spectroscopy, NIR and UV-vis spectrophometry.

Degree in chemistry, covering organic, inorganic, physical, computational and analytical chemistry. Electives taken in geology and biochemistry.
