About Zakiyyah Sutton

Boston native Zakiyyah Sutton is a professional singer who is well versed in Opera, Jazz, R&B, and Gospel. After graduating as the Student Body President and Valedictorian of Boston Arts Academy with a major in voice, she pursued a degree in Political Science and Sociology from Wellesley College.After graduating from Wellesley College in 2012, she worked in communications for local City Councillor Tito Jackson, while also teaching voice part-time at her alma mater, Boston Arts Academy.Zakiyyah transitioned to becoming a writer in Public Relations at the Suffolk County Sheriff’s Department in 2013. There, she created D.A.S.H. (Defensive Aids in Situations of Help); a women’s self-defense program that travels throughout Boston and neighboring cities. She also serves as a trustee for the Free for All Concert Fund, an organization charged with providing the necessary funding to make classical music accessible to the masses. She shares this honor with former Massachusetts Governor Mike Dukakis, Senator Sonia Chang-Diaz, and other dignitaries.She furthered her music studies at New England Conservatory, and recently landed the lead role of Grace in an original musical “This is Treatment”, which raises awareness surrounding issues of substance abuse. Zakiyyah also recently had the honor of serving as an elected delegate at the Democratic National Convention on behalf of her Congressional District (Massachusetts CD7).
