The Play for Rafe Foundation, Inc. was started in honor of Rafe Maccarone who passed away in December of 2007. Rafe was a sophomore at Cocoa Beach Jr/Sr High School when he collapsed during high school soccer practice. He ultimately passed away from a detectable congenital heart condition, known as HCM. Together, with the help of fellow teammates and friends, we formed the Play for Rafe Foundation, Inc. to support high school students at CBHS with the Rafe Maccarone Memorial scholarship and ensure a sustainable soccer program with the start of the CBHS Soccer Booster Program. We hope to continue to carry on Rafe's legacy by supporting soccer, the sport he loved, at Cocoa Beach Jr./Sr. High School. To date we have raised over $30,000 for the scholarship with countless events and support. Our signature event being CBHS "Play for Rafe" Alumni Soccer Game, now going on to our 4th annual!

"The Painted Turtle is a member of Paul Newman's SeriousFun Children's NetworkThe Painted Turtle offers children with serious medical conditions and their families a unique camp experience designed to foster personal growth and exploration. Our goal is to empower campers—to make new friends, try new things, build self-confidence, and become more independent in their medical care. In short, we aspire to help our campers discover all that is possible in their lives. Our camp sessions create a community, one where kids get to know other kids just like them. With this feeling of belonging—of not being alone—campers are more ready to overcome challenges and embrace the new opportunities that they encounter every day. And, of course, it’s all done in an environment that provides outstanding medical care and support for all the campers needs."At The Painted Turtle I was a member of the woodshop program along with one other staff member. As a member of the woodshop team I shared responsibilities that include running daily activities in the woodshop, maintaining a safe and fun environment for nearly 800 campers throughout the summer, and inventory and budget management for the program. I also held responsibilities to a cabin of 7 to 10 campers per session and assisted cabin staff with facilitating an amazing camp experience.http://www.thepaintedturtle.org
Intern For Florida'S Insurance Consumer Advocate
As an intern for Florida's Insurance Consumer Advocate my primary responsibilities were to follow and document the evolution of insurance policy during legislative session (March 1- May 3). Most notably I followed The Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act (PPACA) and its journey through Florida's legislative body. To fulfill my responsibilities I tracked related bills (researched articles, watched/attended committee meetings, and attended conferences and keynotes) in both the Senate and House of Representatives and through their various committees as the state prepares for PPACA's full implementation beginning in 2014.
