About Zara Shijan

Thank you for taking the time to view my profile. I am a recent Textile Design graduate from the University of Leeds, currently pursuing a career in the museum and heritage sector.My key skills include audience and exhibition engagement, with a particular focus on South-Asian communities. I gained experience in this area while working with the Saltaire Collection as an Audience Researcher, where I conducted research within marginalised communities to help engage with the Saltaire Collection, planned interactive events for visitors in the Bradford area, and collected data and research through surveys and community conversations.I am also a skilled researcher, social media marketer, graphic designer, and curatorial associate, and have experience working as a Creative Producer for a 2025 Bradford exhibition. In this role, I am aiding with research involving South-Asian trade, oral histories, and heritage, and supporting event planning and curating the range of art and craft displayed at the exhibition. My hobbies and interests extend outside of work life and include painting, drawing, knitting, and showing artwork around the U.K. Although my work usually specialises in South-Asian textiles, I have a keen eye for South-East Asian ceramics and Victorian decorative arts.
