Zerong Cai Work Experience Details
  • Highlander Racing
    Electrical Systems Associates Engineer
Highlander Racing Jan 2024 - Present
  • Highlander Racing
    Electrical Systems Subteam Intern
Highlander Racing Nov 2023 - Present
    University Of California Riverside
I completed and received certification for the Altium Education course on PCB Design. The course exposed me to the fundamentals of PCB Design and taught me how to use the Altium software when designing PCBs, where it ultimately allowed me to contribute to designing and testing the PCBs in the Highlander Racing. For my intern project, I utilized the knowledge and skills I obtained from the Altium course to design a PCB for a high-side load switch. The project allowed me to experiment with the PCB design process while building my understanding in microelectronics. The PCB is designed for inductive loads and operates using a 0-5V control signal from a microcontroller and 24V source.
  • Highlander Combat Robotics
    Ucr Combat Robotics
Highlander Combat Robotics Jun 2023 - Present
    University Of California Riverside
I am currently an electrical and programming subteam leader. I coordinated with the electrical engineering team in creating side projects to contribute to the club. For example, I organized and collaborated with the electrical engineering team to design a timer using the Adafruit Matrix for our combat robot competitions every year. I also contribute to other side project teams where I offer guidance on how team members can approach their projects.I am collaborating with a team to build a 1.5-pound combat robot using PCB design, electronics, and AutoCAD for our robot competition at the end of the year.

  • University Of California, Riverside
    Undergraduate Research At Cisl Lab
University Of California, Riverside Sep 2023 - Mar 2024
I am an undergraduate researcher at the Collaborative Intelligence Systems Lab under Professor Hang Qiu. At CISL, we built and researched collaborative behavior and intelligence of cooperative autonomy to allow autonomous systems to develop collective behavior.
  • The Financial Information System For California (Fi$Cal)
    Cybersecurity Unit Student Intern
The Financial Information System For California (Fi$Cal) Jul 2024 - Sep 2024
    Sacramento, California, United States
As a cybersecurity student intern, I collaborated with security engineers and informational technology staff to ensure the department has efficient protection against threats to FI$CAL computer networks and systems. I contributed to two main project focuses, asset management and policy strengthening and analysis. For asset management, we utilized Tanium, an asset management software, to discover all the software and test out Tanium's efficiency in finding software. As a result, this allowed security engineers and IT staff to protect and view those assets using threat vulnerability management software like Qualys. We also documented the asset inventory and how we created it, so future interns and security staff can understand how to manage and update the asset inventory. Another project for asset management is the filtering of software assets. We designed filters in Tanium to eliminate those components, allowing security engineers to apply whitelisting on software assets in the department to authorize access to only trusted sources on FI$CAL computers. Finally, for policy management, the department needs to strengthen and organize our security policies for the next fiscal year. By collaborating with policy standards analysts, we analyzed policies using the NIST and SIMM-5300 to organize review frequency for those policies and understand how to comply with these policies. In addition, we also strengthened policies that need to be revised for better security and pass the audit inspection.
  • Vehicle Aid
    Warehouse Team Member
    Vehicle Aid Jul 2023 - Sep 2023
I worked in a warehouse owned by Vehicle-aid in West Sacramento, where I collaborated with and communicated with 7 other team members and two supervisors. I organized and completed lists of orders for delivery by locating the items in the warehouse and then collaborating with other workers to load them onto the delivery truck. I also lead team members in unloading containers. I developed a more organized system where one member inside the container unloads the boxes onto the conveyor belt and other members go on either side of the belt outside the container to load the items onto pallets. Another member will transport the pallets to their destinations in the warehouse. This ultimately doubled our speed in unloading containers before deadlines, allowing us to focus on more important tasks. In addition, I guided and trained new team members by patiently teaching them our methods and answering any questions they have so they can efficiently adapt to our system. Finally, I examined returned items to report their conditions on a spreadsheet online. If the items were in good condition, then I would repackage them for delivery. If the items were not in good condition, then they would be moved to a station for repair.
