(1) Led the team to deliver TEM analysis service of high volume of samples on a daily basis; (2) Conducted morphology characterizations of R&D chip products using electron microscopes and provided detailed structural analysis to help customers evaluate the process design. (3) Performed chemical/crystallinity analysis of R&D chip products, including crystal structure, elemental identification/quantification, valence states, etc., and provided deep insights to the processes.(4) Involved in chip/device failure analysis, such as defect investigation, foreign matter identification, process residues, etc., and provided solid evidence of the failure causes.

Project 1: Synthesis of quantum dots and enhancement of the functional properties via surface modification. (1) Conducted research on synthesis and characterization of cadmium and lead based colloidal nanomaterials (CdSe, CdS and PbS quantum dots). (2) Investigated the application of the as-grown cadmium sulfide for quantum dot sensitized solar cell.(3) Improved the properties of cadmium sulfide nanoparticles by surface modifications, such as capping ligand exchange, core/shell structure synthesis. Project 2: Synthesis and characterizations of catalysts for chemical reactions.(1) Achieved synthesis of two-dimensional nanomaterial composite of reduced graphene oxide and metal/semiconductor nanoparticles for photocatalysis.(2) Synthesized multiple phases of bismuth molybdate via sol-gel method and characterized their crystal structures using Spallation Neutron Source in Oak Ridge National Laboratory. (3) Participated in research on support catalyst (barium zirconium oxide) decorated by precious metal nanoparticles (cobalt and platinum) for methanation of carbon dioxide.

(1) Improved the electrochemical properties of lithium battery cathode material, Li(Nix/Coy/Mn1-x-y)O2 to an advanced level and successfully scaled it up with the qualities meeting customers’ criterion.(2) Led the precursor powder mixing unit in plant and conducted quality control standardization. (3) Accomplished an analysis report about technical/economic application of LiFePO4 cathode material.

(1) Conducted research on synthesis of carbon nanotubes from different types of polymers, such as polypropylene, polyethylene and polyvinyl chloride.(2) Provided fundamental study of polymers for carbon nanotube synthesis in a large scale.(3) Achieved ultra-long carbon nanotube arrays (~5 mm) synthesis via floating catalysis method.(4) Accomplished the substrate design by photolithography technique for reaction kinetics study.
