Ziad is a Civil Engineer with 39 years of experience in civil engineering, traffic engineering, ITS, signal systems, traffic operations and safety, transportation planning, signal timing, microsimulation, highway design, light rail operations and safety, road safety audits, project management, and business development. Was successful on multiple contracts with the FHWA, MDOT SHA, City of Baltimore, Trafficware, and surrounding counties in Maryland. Contracted with Trafficware from 1995 to 1997 to perform Alpha & Beta testing, and nationwide technical support for their analysis tools (Synchro & SimTraffic). Dr. Sabra employed technical staff to facilitate telephone technical support for Trafficware's users; he was engaged in performing Trafficware training classes nationwide (first certified instructor nationwide) to over 20 DOTs throughout the country; he trained more than 1500 professionals with DOTs & traffic conultants, nationwide. Dr. Sabra also was engaged, as a Trainer and lecturer, in several FHWA/NHI training classes, namely the FHWA Demonstration Project 93-Traffic Control Equipment and software", "Advanced Computerized Traffic Signal Systems", and "Advanced Traffic Signal Controllers: NEMA and 2070". As a result of these FHWA contracts, Dr. Sabra conducted 134 3-day training classes in all 50 states in a four year period, and received several letters of commendations and a Certificate of Appreciation from the FHWA. In March 1998, Sabra & Associates, Inc. and Wang & Associates, Inc, merged to form Sabra, Wang & Associates, Inc. which operated for 20 years until May 2017, with 165 employees in four offices: Columbia and Baltimore, Maryland; Falls Church, Virginia; and Washington, D.C..; SWA graduated from the MBE/DBE Program in 2017 and subsequently reverted to Sabra & Associates, Inc. following a spin-off in the firm and Dr. Sabra became the sole owner of the firm.

Performed human factors and safety research and developed real-time dynamic programming for emulating real-world driving simulation in a closed environment, with simulated and animated dynamic signal applications, testing driver behaviors (perception, comprehension, and follow up behavioral reactions) at high-speed signalized intersections. This was the first ever hands-on dynamic signal applications research done on the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) Highway Driving Simulator (HYSIM) since its deployment at the FHWA Turner-Fairbank Highway Research Center in McLean, Virginia. This research laid out the foundation for several original follow-up research programs at FHWA in signals and signing, in 1985 and afterward, and also led to major improvement in driving simulators around the country and at research institutions worldwide, which used the FHWA HYSIM as a model for conducting driving simulation.
