Americorps Vista
I worked between the advocacy department and the development department. Within the development department I provided support with various day to day needs. These responsibilities included assisting with donor acknowledgement letters, other mailings and donor gifts received daily. My duties also included data and gift entry on Raiser's Edge. I have used Raiser's Edge to complete multiple projects. Including prospective donor research, board member profiles, and other fundraising efforts. I was also heavily involved with major donor events, including Taste of the Browns, where I acted as a point person for the silent auction. My responsibilities included managing the database of silent auction items, reaching out to potential donors for in-kind items, day of set up and management, and end of event auction item check out. After the event I also reached out to guests to make sure items were received and any other questions were answered. The silent auction raised $29,000 for the food bank. Within the advocacy department I have joined in educational presentations and efforts, including community convening meetings, tours of the food bank, poverty simulations, and other presentations. I created multiple activities for the advocacy department to utilize to better educate a variety of groups in the community. This includes a version of a poverty simulation that is faster, requires less materials, and is suitable for high school students. The other activity is meant for elementary to middle school students and teaches the importance and difficulty of shopping on a budget, allowing younger community members to see the need the food bank meets in a way they can understand and discuss.
