Technical Assistant - Renewable Energy Analytics
I completed a 9-month placement in the Renewable Energy Analytics department at DNV GL with the aim of broadening my knowledge of the renewable energy sector. I was given a variety of responsibilities and opportunities throughout my placement which have rewarded me with many different experiences. I was exposed to both commercial work and non-commercial activities, but particularly enjoyed working on commercial projects, where I feel I developed some of the most valuable skills, such as communication skills and commercial awareness. In addition to increasing my knowledge on wind resource assessment, I also developed proficiency in SharePoint software, working independently to create an internal site for my department.
Weather Desk Advisor (Summer Placement)
I worked at the Met Office Weather Desk as part of the 3-month summer placement scheme, where my job was to communicate with the many different customers of the Met Office. This involved answering telephone calls, emails and tweets from both the public and commercial clients. I also spent time with several other departments within the Met Office, which gave me a great insight into the huge variety of work and research that the Met Office does.
