Author of the Weather Almanac 2025.

As an operational meteorologist at Weatherquest Ltd, I produced accurate and reliable forecasts for a variety of customers. During my time at Weatherquest, I was involved in producing and presenting a weekly forecast video, which can be found on the Weatherquest YouTube channel and by searching #WQFarmingForecast on social media. I also gained radio experience, providing weather forecasts and world weather news for weekly slots on BBC Radio Suffolk.Alongside my weather forecasting role, I promoted Weatherquest's services in the offshore wind, winter gritting and agricultural industries, as well as many others. I started at Weatherquest in September 2018, when I joined the team part-time during my final year at university.

As part of their COP26 coverage, I was chosen as a BBC Young Climate Change Reporter to help shine a spotlight on how our regions farmers are being affected by climate change. Working alongside the BBC Look East team I spoke to farmers across East Anglia, as well as agricultural students and teachers at Easton College. I gained further experience and confidence in presenting and learnt valuable skills about impactful storytelling.

I completed a 9-month placement in the Renewable Energy Analytics department at DNV GL with the aim of broadening my knowledge of the renewable energy sector. I was given a variety of responsibilities and opportunities throughout my placement which have rewarded me with many different experiences. I was exposed to both commercial work and non-commercial activities, but particularly enjoyed working on commercial projects, where I feel I developed some of the most valuable skills, such as communication skills and commercial awareness.In addition to increasing my knowledge on wind resource assessment, I also developed proficiency in SharePoint software, working independently to create an internal site for my department.

I worked at the Met Office Weather Desk as part of the 3-month summer placement scheme, where my job was to communicate with the many different customers of the Met Office. This involved answering telephone calls, emails and tweets from both the public and commercial clients. I also spent time with several other departments within the Met Office, which gave me a great insight into the huge variety of work and research that the Met Office does. Working in a busy department as part of the Weather Desk team was very enjoyable and I learnt to appreciate the value of sharing information with colleagues. Throughout the placement I gained valuable confidence in my ability to answer a wide range of enquiries and aimed to always answer questions in a clear, concise manner to ensure the best possible customer experience.
