Teaching Neurogenic Speech Disorders to the graduate students enrolled in the Speech-Language Pathology degree at UNH

Providing speech, language, cognitive, swallowing, and voice therapy in acute care, transitional care, and outpatient settings.

Provide in-home speech, language, swallowing, and cognitive rehabilitation to individuals around the greater Los Angeles area.

Providing in-home supplemental education services to children through the LeRoy Haynes Family of Programs and S.T.A.R. Academy.

Providing per diem speech, language, and swallowing therapy in skilled nursing facilities.

- Planning intervention sessions for clients with a wide range of ages and diagnoses including: aphasia, receptive/expressive language disorders, autism spectrum disorders, speech sound disorders, complex communication needs requiring augmentative/alternative communication, motor speech disorders, dysphagia, voice disorders, learning disabilities, and cognitive disorders.- Writing reports (evaluations, update documents, etc.) to be sent to each client's referral source.- Collaborate with other staff speech-language pathologists (SLPs) and speech-language pathology assistants (SLPAs) for the comprehensive treatment of all center clients.

- Assist with the compilation of a Praxis Exam review manual for speech-language pathologists - Communicate with the multiple authors to ensure proper publication of their chapter- Communicate with editors and publishers to ensure timely completion of the manual.- Write chapter of strategies for effective studying, content and structure of Praxis examination, and establishment of Praxis examination.

THE APHASIA CENTER:- Plan and implement individual treatment sessions for adults with various aphasia syndromes, apraxia of speech, and cognitive disorders- Utilize approaches to aphasia intervention such as: Voluntary Control of Involuntary Utterances (VCIU), Sentence Production Program for Aphasia (SPPA), Verb Network Strengthening Treatment (VNeST), Anagram-Copy-Recall Treatment (ACRT), Melodic Intonation Therapy (MIT), Oral Reading for Language in Aphasia (ORLA), and Aphasia Scripts- Facilitate conversation groups for aphasia center clientele- Research relationship between auditory attention and auditory comprehension in persons with aphasia (PWA)

SPEECH, LANGUAGE, AND LITERACY CENTER:- Developed assessment batteries for children with Childhood Apraxia of Speech (CAS), speech sound disorders, and reading disorders.- Conducted family interviews with clients' caregivers, as a means of getting a more thorough case history.- Performed the following standardized assessment measures: GFTA-2, KLPA-2, CELF-P2, PAT-2, WRMT-III, CTOPP-2, GORT-5, DIBELS-6, CELF-4, EVT-2, and PPVT-4.- Wrote and presented diagnostic reports and progress notes to families of clients, in order to keep family members and integral part of intervention.- Planned and implemented biweekly intervention sessions, targeting goals established through assessment and data intrepretation.- Collected and analyzed data on a weekly basis, as a means of furthering intervention for clients.- Provided specialized intervention based on Motor Learning Theory.- Provided multisensory and structured reading intervention, based on Orton-Gillingham principles.- Hosted a session for parents of children attending the SLLC, in order to educate them on how to best help their children's reading abilities in the home.

COMPREHENSIVE REHABILITATION UNIT:- Completed comprehensive speech, language, and cognitive-linguistic evaluations, including: ALFA, BADS, BASA, BDAE, BNT, CLQT, RBANS, SCATBI, WAB-R, Spaulding comprehensive assessment batteries, and comprehensive motor speech evaluation.- Completed clinical bedside assessments of functional swallowing abilities. - Established individual speech, language, cognitive-linguistic, swallowing, and voice related long and short term goals for patients, selected appropriate treatment materials, and compiled patient soft charts for use in intervention sessions.- Provided individual intervention sessions for patients based on their specific needs, within the areas of: speech, language, orientation, attention, memory, problem solving/reasoning, executive functioning, safety training/awareness, organization/categorization, swallowing, and voice.- Completed writing of daily treatment notes, weekly treatment notes, evaluation write ups, weekend treatment plans, and referrals.- Attended interprofessional team collaboration (ITC) to discuss patient status with MD, NP/RN, OT, PT, and case managers.- Provided hospital in-service presentation to occupational and physical therapists, regarding the purpose and procedures of SLP assessment in acute rehabilitation settings.- Performed hearing screenings, and provided appropriate amplification if needed.- Attended hospital Neurological Rounds to discuss patients' course of treatment and diagnosis in relation to imaging findings.- Viewed Modified Barium Swallow (MBS) studies to provide imaging of patient swallowing difficulties.- Provided treatment coverage on Stroke/Neurology Unit, Spinal Cord Injury Unit, and Brain Injury Unit.

MADISON PARK TECHNICAL/VOCATIONAL HIGH SCHOOL:- Provided pull-out and in-class services for a caseload of 45 children with a variety of speech and language, reading, and cognitive disorders.- Attended IEP meetings to update parents and clients on client progress made in reaching goals.- Attended annual review meetings to discuss furthering speech and language services for clients, or as a means if discharging clients who have reached all speech and language goals.- Wrote reevaluation and annual review reports to assess client progress.- Collaborated with teachers to provide in-class supports in order to help clients better understand academic and vocational material.- Administered the following standardized assessment measures: CELF-5, EOWPVT-3, ROWPVT-3.- Worked with a population that includes: selective mutism, Autism, Specific Learning Disability, Specific Language Impairment, cognitive delays, English language learners, and Soto Syndrome.RICHARD J. MURPHY ELEMENTARY SCHOOL:- Provided SP/OT treatment to a caseload of 385 children, grades K0-5, with a variety of speech, language, and cognitive deficits.- Provided weekly small group services to children requiring extra support.- Planned and implemented individualized services for two "T" students.- Fostered development of literacy, comprehension, and vocabulary development, through reading and discussion of stories.- Wrote progress notes, to assess progress made during the Extended School Year program.- Collaborated with occupational, physical, and other speech-language therapists to provide multidiscipline intervention.- Used basic augmentative and alternative communication systems (AAC) to increase the communication of various children on the caseload.- Worked with a population that included: multi-handicapped students, autism, developmental delay, intellectual impairment, Down syndrome, traumatic brain injury, and behavioral deficits.

APHASIA RESEARCH LABORATORY:- Designed treatment protocols for laboratory naming studies.- Performed lab therapies.- Performed reliability measures on laboratory studies of aphasia.- Recruited patients to act as research subjects.- Established public relations for the laboratory through social media outlets.- Helped with laboratory upkeep and maintenance.

APHASIA RESOURCE CENTER:- Designed group treatments to improve communication abilities for people with all profiles of aphasia.- Facilitated discussions on current news and teaching different computer skills were areas touched upon in the clinical setting.

DEPARTMENT OF SPEECH AND SWALLOWING:- Completing office tasks such as copying, faxing, and emailing, as well as data compilation and entry into database. - Assisted with clinical tests such as the Fiberoptic Endoscopic Evaluation of Swallowing (FEES) and Modified Barium Swallow (MBS) tests. - Set up and take down of tests were assigned as necessary.

DEPARTMENT OF ANATOMY AND NEUROBIOLOGY:- Collected data on the effects of residue in the valleculae and pyriform sinuses of patients through analyzing modified barium swallow examinations.- Analyzed data and articles.- Assisted a doctoral candidate on dissertation.
