Zachary (Zach) Treece is the Founding Principal of Treece. Zach got his start in a design office in 2010 and maintains the same curiosity-based design approach that he started with many years ago. Zach has experience in all phases of structural engineering projects, having led projects from their infancy in concept design all the way through the end of construction administration. Prior to starting Treece, Zach worked for a 2000+ person design firm where he led projects with world-class architects including Gensler, Moody Nolan, Foster + Partners, Luis Vidal + Associates, John Ronan Architects, and Wheeler Kearns. Throughout his career, Zach has worked on a variety of different project types at different scales and with different materials. Zach is a licensed Professional Engineer in California, Colorado, Iowa, Michigan, Minnesota, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Virginia, and Wisconsin, and a licensed Structural Engineer in California and Illinois.Prior to starting his professional career, Zach was a graduate student at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign where he earned his Master’s Degree in civil (structural) engineering in December of 2015. During his tenure at Illinois, Zach held a research assistantship with Dr. Billie F. Spencer, Jr., focusing on structural health monitoring for the evaluation of miter lock gates. The research was sponsored by the United States Army Corps of Engineers. Zach graduated Summa Cum Laude with an Honors Scholar designation from the University of Missouri – Columbia in May of 2014. Zach worked for Dr. Sarah Orton during his last three years at Mizzou as an undergraduate research assistant where he helped conduct experimental research in the areas of disproportionate plate collapse and CFRP retrofit.During his free time, Zach enjoys being an active member of his church and spending time at home with his young family.
