The Kier IT Department has over 300 members of staff. I work in the Design and Architecture Team reporting to the Head of Design & Architecture as one of the SME responsible for data centre and cloud infrastructure technologies.The primary role is to: - Be one of the "Go To" technical resources on Cloud and Virtual/Physical Datacentre Infrastructure.- Enhance the IT strategy with regards to the future vision for Data Centre and Cloud Infrastructure Architecture.- Conduct architect reviews, gap analysis and assessment- Create solution architecture blueprints that will service business needs and wider business transformation. eg. Application/Technology Roadmaps - Produce high level / low level infrastructure design documentation- Satisfy stakeholders, manage the technical element of third party relationships for in flight projects.- Delivering hands on technical advice and support to my aligned IT Operations colleagues- Participate in the change advisory board to validate/endorse complex changes - Understand and document existing services as well as new services and ensure they are successfully transitionedDue to my excellent background in infrastructure operations and infrastructure design, I can understand many technologies and make decisions with confidence whilst considering the wider business outside of IT.For complex server infrastructure tasks and major incidents, you will often find me guiding or learning from my colleagues. "The Server Guy" who solves complex technical problems on all scales.Responsible to the Infrastructure Operations Manager. Liable for technical server requirements for all datacentres which consist of physical and virtual server infrastructure. Taking ownership of escalations. tech lead of infrastructure projects and BAU Ops.This was a challenging position with a heavy workload but delivered high levels of job satisfaction and teamwork.- Server Estate 1000+ across 4 datacentres and various remote sites- Extensive build, administration and troubleshooting of windows physical and virtual servers.- Enterprise VMware Experience from v5.5(Enterprise Plus Hosts, Resource Pools, OS Templates, Storage DRS, vMotion, VM DR, vCOPs, VM Backup, Distributed Switching, vCenter Fibre Channel SAN+ iSCSi SAN, P2V, V2V ect..)- Datacentre Operations (Inductions, Access, Power, Air Con, Monitoring, Fire Suppression, Rack Management)- Disaster Recovery Implementation, Planning and Testing- Active Directory including Domain Contollers, Certificate Services, DHCP, DNS, Group Policy, - Administrator working with the majority of windows server roles eg DFS, Direct Access, Clustering, IIS, Printing, RDS, volume licencing ect..- Supporting a vast range of common and bespoke Application Servers / Hardware Appliances- Backup Administrator(Tape, Backup-to-Disk, De-Duplication Client/Server (Symantec Backup Exec / NetBackup 7.5 / IBM TSM)- IBM SVC/v7000 SAN & Dell EqualLogic P Series iSCSI Storage- Lync / Skype for Business / Exchange 2003-2010 Administrator- BES / MDM Administrator- Citrix – Presentation 4.0 / XenApp 6.5 / Access Gateway- Load Balancing / Global Load Balancing- Infrastructure Monitoring Expert (Solarwinds)- Symantec Cloud – Internet access control and mail flow- Internet Proxy (Squid, Stymantec Cloud)- Work with Dell/Microsoft/VMware to resolve hardware and software problems- General Infrastructure Operations and Support Documentation / KPI Reporting

"The face of IT"Responsible to the IT Delivery Manager Providing 2nd line support to 500+ local users. A technical resource required to problem solve a wide variety of 2nd line IT requests in line with SLA’s. A friendly approachable face to work with customers and the wider IT Department to provide a consistent IT service. This role massively developed my communication and troubleshooting skills allowing me to tackle problems head on and build up a good reputation.Key Responsibilities:- Meet SLAs- Manage and prioritise workload using an ITIL service desk system.- Site commissioning and decommissioning- Telephone System installation and system support (Mitel / Avaya / Ericsson)- Laptop / Desktop imaging and deployment- Laptop / Desktop migrations- Hardware / Software Installations- Liaising with 3rd party suppliers and support- Maintaining site based server backups with Symantec backup exec- BES Administrator- Mobile Device “champion”
