 Left Nuance in the end of August, 2018, back to China and joined Roobo, responsible for building the complete speech technology stack from zero: microphone array speech signal processing, cloud ASR, embedded ASR, wakeup word solution, Voice Biometric technology and pronunciation assessment systems and so on.  Until now we have completed the core recognition engine, acoustic modeling research, full capability of building ASR system, refining the performance for various languages (given data). Also responsible for providing ASR, wakeup word and microphone array signal processing solutions to other customers.

Transferred to Nuance Automotive headquarter in Aachen city, Germany in June 2017. Besides of continuing leading speech RnD Greater China, more responsibities including:o Collaborate with European team to apply China RnD outputs to other language and markets. Make China RnD become Nuance global wakeup word solution center for all markets and languages.o Increase Nuance Chinese solution’s visibility directly to BMW, VW and Mercedes headquarters to improve their understandings on Chinese solution and enhance their confidence in Nuance’s solution so as to enhance Nuance automotive competitiveness in China market. The most advanced Chinese in-car demo had been built into European demo cars.

Joined Nuance China in 2011 as Senior Research Engineer. Since 2012, promoted by one level per year to serve as Research Manager in 2013, Senior Research Manager in 2014 and Director RnD Speech, Greater China in 2015, directly report to SVP (head of RnD and engineering) in Germany.Responsibilities:o Conduct ASR/NLU solution research in Greater China area to localize and satisfy the requirements in China markets. o Develop prototype and related technology, solution and user experience innovation. Also lead the project delivery to key global customer’s Chinese solution, i.e. BMW, Mercedes Benz, JLR, etc;o Provide technical support, consultancy and training to customers. Coordinate with other Nuance global RnD teams to conduct customer-oriented research topics to ensure the advantage of Nuance’s speech solutions and support sales team to win deals;o The involved research topics include embedded and cloud ASR solution research (for Automotive/IoT), NLP/NLU and speech signal processing (AEC/NR/multi-microphone solutions/BF/DoA, etc.).Major accomplishments:o Founded and developed the core research team in Nuance China, starting from less than 10 to around 50 in 2018. o Landed the first in-car cloud+embedded hybrid speech HMI solution project in China and led the project delivery in 2013;o Led the research and development of Chinese Dragon Drive prototype and solution to build the solid foundation for Nuance automotive business development in China;o Led China RnD and coordinate with global teams to win several customer benchmarks in China. The most successful one is to win BMW 35up project bidding in 2014~2015 in the very fierce competition, and then led the local RnD team to finish the development and delivery of this project. o Main projects: BMW 35up (2014~2016), MGU18 (2017~2018), the first generation of Rowe-RX5, GWM H6, H7, H8, Mercedes Benz MBUX (2016~2018), Huawei phone low-power wakeup solution, etc.
