FutureRailway is a government funded (£80m+) innovation programme focused on delivering the 2012 UK Railway Technical Strategy (RTS). The objective being to deliver reductions in cost and carbon emissions to the UK rail industry whilst increasing capacity and customer satisfaction. The RTS outlines the technology required to deliver this vision. I am part of the senior management team that has set up this new, rail focused, innovation initiative (FutureRailway). My key duties have included:a. Engaging with the supply chain, b. Identifying quick wins for supporting innovation in the Rail industry.c. Setting up the organisations processes and associated documentation. d. Development and ongoing operation of the reporting. e. Delivery of innovation contracts (currently over 75 contracts).f. Sponsoring the strategy and delivery of programmes to accelerate the route to market for rail innovation. My successes to date have included the following ongoing activities: 1. Setting-up a innovator testing support scheme that has supported over 50 organisations develop their technology over a 18 month period.2. Delivering a £5.3m rolling stock innovation programme from definition to contract delivery.3. Initiating and managing the “Railway, Advanced Materials Steering Group”.4. Developing a UK Rail Testing Strategy delivery plan. 5. Taking a Leading role in promoting Innovation to the rail community in the UK.

Working on the £0.5bn (spend circa £80m per year) Jubilee & Northern Line Signalling upgrade programme delivering an automatic train operation system. Focusing on delivering process improvements and cost savings. Given the change from an emerging to fixed price cost I was responsible for working with departments to define the overall strategy, resourcing and delivery plans. Successes include: • re-organisation of the project controls team (45 people) to deliver the first accurate and integrated reporting for the executive, client and project.• Business Development of existing innovations into marketable products.• Creation of the first Earned Value, SPI and CPI reports on this £0.5bn programme.• Responsible for Health and Safety, across the entire programme.• Lead change manage team that delivered of £4m of efficiency savings and eliminating £2m of disallowed costs.

Working closely with the Deputy Managing Director, Projects Director, Senior Comercial Manager to deliver 44 station upgrades covering systems and physical upgrade. Responsiblities include Programme, Engineering, Project Management, Design and Delivery of the upgrade of 44 stations. projects successful deliveried in the last 18 months include a train depot upgrade, new carriage wash plant, 9 new staff accomadation units and approximately 40 projects valued at less than £100,000 each over the last 18 months. Business Development identify new products, applications and concepts for physical space and to reduce clients costs. Responsible for the day to day operation of the projects team. This included responsibility for producing estimates and delivering projects on budget. I also wrote the majority of our project proposals and ensured that key executive players bought into the cost and programme before presenting to the Executive on a number of occasions. The key deliverable in this role was station refurbishment with an AFC of £43m (budget £38m), as principal contractor with Transport for London as client. I was responsible for identifying up to £2.5m of cost savings and a 15% reduction in programme duration through collaborative working and revising existing processes.

• Acting as principal contractor to BAA in an organisation set up and run to be a client with Invensys as main sub contractor.• Network Rail Senior Manager at Heathrow Terminal 5 managing the interface with all contractors on site and client with responsibility for signalling implementation. Led team of contractors (Delta Rail, Amey, Invensys), Doubled the capacity of the Slough (IECC) Signal Control Centre Controlling Paddington Railway Station and surrounding area with no disruption to passenger or freight services. • Nominated for the UK wide Network Rail make a difference awards “can do” award and all thirty project members (over eight organisations) of the team that I led were jointly nominated for the “teamwork” award.

• Improved budget delivery as part of a committee that scrutinised proposed budgets and traced the impact of these back to residents. • Gave clear direction to council officers and identified impact of proposed closures of respite care facilities and a temporary school early on to ensure transitions were smooth. • Chaired Licensing, Environmental and Educational committees and organised for user groups to come in and give us their opinion on services offered by the council. • Obtained improvements for the ward I represented and assisted in conflict resolution following the mistaken shooting of a terrorist suspect at Stockwell Station within my ward. • Sat as a director on the board of Western Riverside Waste Authority.

• Part of the Virgin trains projects team that successfully fended off legal claims from both NR and Alstom trains. I was responsible for successfully dealing with Denton Wilde Sapte to ensure that my project was not culpable for any delays.• Member of support staff for the Virgin PUG2 re-negotiation team (NR contract).• Member of East Coast Mainline Bid team.• Client Project Manager for the award winning novel (new) ERTMS (Level 0), Tilt Authorisation and Speed Supervision, overall winner of the Railway Forum Innovation Awards, 2005). This involved:- Interface manager and problem resolver between ALSTOM Trains, Alstom Signalling, Network Rail (WCRM, CCRM) and Bombardier trains, NoBO (Aspect) and HMRI. - Ensuring the CEO of Virgin Trains and Managing Director of West Coast Trains Ltd were kept up to date with progress and briefed for important meetings.- Responsible for the role out of the new product to all Virgin Train’s routes and supported the rolling stock installation.
