5 Corners Improvement District

Created in 2007 by House Bill No. 4134, 80th Legislature, Regular Session, and amended by House Bill No. 4795, 81st Legislature, Regular Session, 2009, and Chapter 375, Texas Local Government Code (the “Act”), through the support of State Senator Rodney Ellis and State Representative Dr. Alma Allen. With a vision of shaping the community into a thriving, pedestrian-friendly environment; the District was created to enhance the physical, social, and economic well-being of the community. Five Corners District (5 Corners) provides services and improvements in the southern area of the City of Houston, Texas. The main function of 5 Corners is to: Develop the District as a desirable destination by providing a safe environment in both perception and reality through focused crime reduction, control, and prevention programs as well as targeted public safety projects supplementing local law enforcement; Support business development by mobilizing resources to address current and future infrastructure and development needs through projects and initiatives focused on attracting more businesses, investments, and encourage greater connectivity between residents and businesses; Utilize and improve existing resources to create a well-planned transportation system which effectively addresses current and future mobility and infrastructure needs; Coordinate with stakeholders and mobilize resources to address current and future infrastructure, branding, beautification, open space, and cultural enhancement needs. Thanks to the effort of vested stakeholders, strategic partners, and other government entities, the District continues to grow and thrive into a safe place to live, work, and play.
