Aaladamara Foundation was co-founded by The Banyan and Azim Premji Foundation to focus on the cause of homelessness and mental illness in Karnataka. The Banyan is 30-year-old NGO offering comprehensive mental health services for homeless and ultra-vulnerable populations since 1993. The Azim Premji Foundation was founded as a philanthropic organisation by Mr. Premji in 2014 in an effort to focus on a range of issues from education to disability, homelessness, urban poverty, health and citizenship rights. Both organisations have been engaged for nearly a decade to create equitable mental health services for homeless persons in urban, rural and tribal areas. They have co-created the Emergency Care and Recovery Centre approach which was adopted by the Government of Tamil Nadu as a best practice to service homeless mentally ill persons. Aaladamara was founded with a vision to promote proximal access to an ecosystem of mental health care in Karnataka.
