About ABSIP Student Chapters
The Association of Black Securities and Investment Professionals (ABSIP) was established in 1995 to address the lack of representation of black professionals in the South African securities and investment industry. ABSIP’s vision is to have “a transformed, fully inclusive, ethically run financial sector that equitably represents black professionals and black business to enable sustainable growth for the sector and South Africa at large.” In order to achieve its vision and objectives, ABSIP focuses on five key pillars: • Youth Development • Women Development • Thought Leadership • Advocacy • Financial Stability The student chapters form part of Youth Development. Through the student chapter programmes, ABSIP seeks to provide students with a platform to further develop their soft skills. Particularly, their: • Leadership and decision-making skills, • Communication skills, • Networking skills, • Time management and organisation skills, • Problem-solving skills, and • Event planning and budgeting skills. Through the student chapter programmes, ABSIP aims to: • Grow the talent pool of young black professionals entering the South African financial services industry, and • Develop ethical leaders.
