The average Australian household emits 14 carbon tonnes a year, 60% of this total through gas/electricity and 33% through vehicle fuels. Our ten million Australian households, including all of their appliances, vehicles, and cooking, heating and cooling loads, are responsible for approximately 42% of the emissions of our domestic economy. We are now rapidly moving towards a distributed energy grid (where the home/car becomes a virtual power plant). By 2030, it is projected that 50% of homes will have solar with 25% of homes also having an electric vehicle or stationary battery.
