About Ada - Women and non-binary in Tech at the University of Iceland

The purpose of Ada is to create a platform to empower women and non-binary people pursuing an education in tech-related fields. Ada wants to establish a safe environment for women and non-binary people to build connections, share their experiences and support each other. Alongside Ada wants to inform potential students about the opportunities in tech-related fields and increase the visibility of female and non-binary role models in tech. In the year 2017, only 28% of freshmen in tech programs were women and only 25% in 2018. Ada aims to address the problem of women discontinuing their tech-related studies within the University of Iceland and increase the number of applicants each year. Beyond the university, Ada is working with companies and other higher education institutions to increase women's visibility in tech and increase the equity of all genders within the field.
