WHAT IS ADIVASI LIVES MATTER?
Adivasi Lives Matter is an attempt to talk about Adivasis and tribals of India in a concerted manner. We aspire to highlight the richness of Adivasis, their culture, customs, traditional knowledge and environmental conservation as well as stories of the violations of their rights.
WHY WAS IT STARTED?
Adivasis (Scheduled Tribes) in India constitute 8.6% of the country population, totalling 104 million people, which is 40% of the world’s indigenous population.
With over 700 scheduled tribes in India who speak more than 1000 languages, the sheer diversity of Adivasis is not reflected either in the media or news.
Adivasi Lives Matter originated from the shortage of visually rich content about the diversity, enormity, and anonymity of the Adivasis on social media.
A small group of volunteers from the development and media content sector, we aim to change the situation by creating engaging visual content to create and sustain a conversation about Adivasis, one of the most marginalised groups of India.
