OUR MISSION
To create a community movement to support single mom's of NEPA and beyond who are in the GAP with a network of resources to enhance their quality of life by fostering social, emotional and financial support so they can be the best version of themselves to thrive as mom's and women of our community.
We are doing this with gifts at Christmas, educational programming, community engagement and other meaningful support activities both online and in-person throughout the year to encourage, engage and inspire these mom's.
OUR FOUNDING
The Adopt-a-Single-Mom Project and Adopt a Single Mom for Christmas was founded by Donna Nelson a Holistic Empowerment Coach & Lifestyle Strategist living in Northeastern Pennsylvania. Recognizing the huge need of this underserved, underrecognized population in her own community of Northeastern Pennsylvania that she adopted the program specifically for working single mom's in her area who fall into the invisible gap.
The single mom's in this 'gap' have two primary challenges. They are the ones who lack access to financial resources to get through a financial hardship due to making money to receive financial assistance from community and government funded programs. Yet the most prevalent gap of single moms is lacking an adequate support system for social and emotional support with them often feeling isolated, lonely and unsupported.
WHY WE NEED TO HELP
There are 14,376 Single Mom homes in Luzerne and Lackawanna Counties of Pennsylvania.
7,664 of them are in the GAP above poverty level.
Our communities do not have adequate resources to provide a ‘safety net’ for single moms in this category.
HOW WE ARE MAKING A DIFFERENCE
It is our intention that our small contribution will express to these mom’s they are not forgotten, and that they are valued and supported. That they in fact are not invisible - we see them, we understand, and we care.
