Yes, healthcare is a team sport, but one we aren’t playing very well. No doubt healthcare is complex with a plethora of challenges from financing to workforce gaps to inequitable access and more. We have incredible talent, technology, and medicines, yet we have not fully achieved our mission to deliver an incredible employee, provider and patient experience as well as ultimately improve the health of the populations we serve. The fix isn’t complicated, but it does require focus and discipline to operationalize the foundations of teamwork including building trust, aligning strategy, and enhancing communications. This goes for individuals and teams at health care providers, payers, public health, community services and community partnerships. Individually, our team members need to return to their purpose, engage in the work and achieve their own professional goals.
