AFAMMCA is a non-profit organization founded in 1985, promoted by the union of relatives of people who had been diagnosed with a serious mental disorder, which strives to improve the quality of life of all of them.
The organization seeks to improve the well-being of families, the quality of life of people with MSD and their families, and puts special emphasis on promoting social inclusion through work linked to self-knowledge, autonomy, self-care and empowerment of those affected.
We understand social inclusion as full participation in the community, beyond those spaces specifically intended for people with MSDs.
Let us not forget the much-needed work we do with society to end stigma towards this type of disorders and the people who suffer from them. That is why we take a look at society with the will to raise awareness.
We are also committed to the treatment and care of psychological distress and mild, temporary, temporary and transient mental disorders, so that they don't become chronic, and so that people who suffer from them can regain their psychological stability.
In 2017, the organization was declared of public utility, recognizing the work we are doing in the mental health sector, which puts us as a necessary and complementary service within the social and health network of Catalonia.
Objectives of the organization:
- To support, accompany and promote the recovery of people affected by a mental disorder and the people who take care of them.
- Encourage the social inclusion of people suffering from a severe mental disorder through psychosocial support.
- Raise awareness among society and in public and private institutions about aspects surrounding mental disorder (stigmatization, rights and duties, isolation, etc.)
It can be stated that the existence of AFAMMCA for more than 30 years, has been, and is, of great importance to improve the quality of life and social inclusion of many people with mental disorders and their family members.
