AI-CARING - AI Institute for Collaborative Assistance & Responsive Interaction for Networked Groups

The NSF AI Institute for Collaborative Assistance and Responsive Interaction for Networked Groups (AI-CARING) will develop a discipline focused on personalized, longitudinal, collaborative AI, enabling the development of AI systems that learn personalized models of user behavior, understand how people’s behavior changes over time, and integrate that knowledge to support people and AIs working together. These networked Human-AI teams will work with elderly adults and their caregivers in order to provide sustainable long-term care solutions. AI-CARING is a collaboration between Georgia Tech, Carnegie Mellon University, Oregon State University, the University of Massachusetts Lowell and Oregon Health & Science University. The project is funded by the National Science Foundation, with Amazon and Google as industry sponsors. The Institute will serve as a nexus point for collaborative efforts across academia and industry. In addition to advanced research, these collaborations will actively build the next generation of talent for a diverse, well-trained workforce. The institute will support a wide range of workforce development, education, outreach, broadening participation, and knowledge transfer programs designed to disseminate knowledge about, and enthusiasm for, the development of interactive AI systems.
