Airgae makes the fish industry sustainable by replacing fish oil in aquaculture feed with algae. The majority of aquaculture operations rely on externally sourced feed. Typically, this feed is packed with high levels of fish oil and fishmeal, derived from wild caught fish such as anchovies, herrings, and sardines. Though fishmeal and fish oil are nutritionally dense, the declining stock of these forage fish presents a looming threat to the balance of our ecosystem. Substitute protein sources can be found in land crops, but alternatives for the omega-3 rich fish oil are scarce and hard to come by. Airgae solves the aquaculture industry's reliance on fish oil by introducing a high-fatty acid algae substitute, that is not only better for the environment, but also healthier for the fish and the consumer. Not only does our algae production have a net negative carbon footprint, but it also embraces the principles of the circular economy by utilizing nutrient-rich aquaculture waste as a natural fertilizer. In doing so, Airgae offers aquacultures a sustainable and eco-friendly alternative to traditional fish oil, paving the way for a greener, healthier future.
