The majority of aquaculture operations rely on externally sourced feed. Typically, this feed is packed with high levels of fish oil and fishmeal, derived from wild caught fish such as anchovies, herrings, and sardines. Though fishmeal and fish oil are nutritionally dense, the declining stock of these forage fish presents a looming threat to the balance of our ecosystem.
