Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy is a severe and progressive muscle wasting disease. It is THE MOST COMMON FATAL genetic disease to affect children around the world!! It affects one in every 3,500 male births.
Young boys with it look no different to normal healthy boys BUT inside their body is struggling as their muscles slowly disappear.
By 10-12 years old they will lose a great deal of muscle strength and are likely to be confined to a wheelchair. But it doesn’t stop there it their muscles continue to slowly die until they have no muscle left at all! Because the heart and lungs are muscles too it leads to heart and respiratory disease.
It leaves boys unable to do the simplest of things like eat and drink – it takes away every single ability to do what we all take for granted.
There is currently no cure or effective treatments without major side effects for Duchenne. Duchenne is 100% fatal!
