AM2SoftMag aims to make 3D printing the standard for producing high-performance amorphous soft-magnetic components. By using selective laser melting (SLM) of specially designed bulk metallic glass (BMG) alloys, they plan to demonstrate the superior efficiency of electric motors with soft-magnetic stator and rotor components. This method allows for energy-efficient production of complex geometries, expands the range of recyclable amorphous metals, and reduces the need for environmentally critical elements like cobalt. The project fosters collaboration between academic and industrial leaders, contributing significantly to the European Green Deal by enhancing the energy efficiency of electrical devices.
