Baca Architects was founded in 2003 by Richard Coutts with the aim of integrating landscape and low carbon technology to create beautiful and enduring buildings. Since then, the practice has established a core specialism in innovative waterfront design and flood resilience, and Richard has become one of Europe’s foremost experts on designing with water. He is an advisor to the UK government’s Core Cities Floods Advisory Group and has recently been recognised as a Fellow RIBA.
Baca’s current and recent projects include: Tyram Lakes Hotel & Spa in Yorkshire; a residential development in a flood zone near Stratford Upon Avon, which is under construction; a scheme for 900 high-end residential units in East London, currently in for planning; a benchmark residential development overlooking Christchurch Harbour and the River Stour Estuary; the Amphibious House as featured on Grand Designs; and, overseas, schemes for hotels and resorts in the Caribbean, South America and Australia.
