Bahini Education Project

Mission: To educate and empower young women in rural Nepal, enable them to reach their educational and career goals, and guide them to become responsible leaders through mentorship, skills training, and educational support. Bahini means “younger sister” in Nepali. Bahini Education Project provides social, economic, and academic support from secondary school through college and fosters consistent, long-term relationships with the bahinis and their families. We aim to educate and empower all bahinis we work with because we know that young women can be confident leaders, inspire others, have a greater role in society, and transform their communities. Bahini Education Project offers skills training, mentorship, financial support, and prepares girls to attend university. In addition, we build relationships with the students’ families to foster understanding and acceptance that education for their daughters is a priority. We work with young women in government/public schools who are in grade 9 (the first year of secondary school) and provide stable support throughout their secondary school years (10, 11, and 12), prepare them to attend university, and support them throughout their college years. We look beyond individual academic achievement and also focus on developing skills to build confidence, resilience, and cultivate motivation. We work to ensure that bahinis in rural Nepal have the opportunity to pursue higher education and that their financial circumstances are not barriers to attending college and obtaining a degree.
